In the Pound for Pound ratings, Nikolay Valuev moved past Ronald Wright into fifth after his defeat of Monte Barrett. I watched this fight, my first time to see Valuev. He did not look that good, he's just big. He did not seem to have any stamina issues, though he did get chin checked early in the fight. Barrett is not known for being a big puncher, which makes me think somebody like Wladimir Klitschko or Sam Peter would definitely be able to put him down if they hit him clean. Another month and more entries of
old people allowed Archie Moore and Young Stribling to move up a spot each in the All-Time Pound for Pound ratings, and it allowed Gene Tunney to bump Gene Fullmer from the list.At Cruiser, Fabrice Tiozzo retired, allowing Thomas Hearns to regain his spot in the top 5.
Tomasz Adamek, from Zywiec, Poland, beat Paul Briggs to bump Montell Griffin from the Light Heavy ranks. At Middle, Jose Luis Lopez lapsed into inactivity, allowing up and comer Kelly Pavlik, from Youngstown, OH to make his ratings debut. Diego Corrales failed to make Lightweight, lost to Joel Casamayor and entered the Lt. Welter ranks at 4th, bumping Junior Witter. Acelino Frei
tas retired, returning to his best weight, Super Feather, where he shows up on the All Time rating, taking the place of Oscar Larios who moved down. Freitas's move allowed Houston's own Juan Baby Bull Diaz to claim the top spot at Lightweight and Guantanamo's Casamayor moved into the rankings following his defeat of Corrales. Jose Miguel Aguiniga also took advantage of Corrales's departure to move in to the Lightweight rankings. Larios moved to Featherweight, where he beat Roberto Bonilla. His move allowed Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic's Joan Guzman to enter the Super Featherweight ranks. Larios replaced Steven Luevano, who moved up to Super Feather where he is not ranked. Larios also moved into the All-Time Feather rankings, displacing Johnny Tapia. Jorge Lacierva moved up to Feather, allowing Sod Looknongyangtoy from Petchaboon, Thailand
(where else?) to move into the Super Bantam ratings. Jorge Arce moved up to Super Fly to beat Masipulele Makepula and claim the top spot in both active and All-Time ratings. In both ratings, he replaces Medgoen Singsurat who moved up to Bantamweight. Nelson Dieppa dropped down to Lt. Fly and his departure, allong with Arce's, allowed Victor Burgos from T
ijuana and Kermin Guardia, from Antioquia Colombia, to enter the Fly rankings. Arce's departure also allowed Vic Darchinyan to move into the All-Time Fly ratings. Dieppa, from Vieques, Puerto Rico, entered both Lt. Fly rankings after a loss to Hugo Fidel Cazares. The victory allowed Cazares to move up a spot and Dieppa bumped Jose
Antonio Aguirre from the ratings. This also displace Ulises Solis from the All-Time ratings and Cazares's victory moves him into the All-Time ratings in front of Brian Viloria. An unfortunate oversight due to poor spreadsheet formatting caused Julio Cesar Vasquez to have missed his ratings spot for some time. He is now appropriately positioned in the All-Time ratings and he displaced Otis Grant. At Middle, old entries have helped Harry Greb pass Carl Olson for fourth All Time. In addition to Freitas moving in at All-Time Super Feather, Kevin Kelley moved up, allowing Manila's Flash Elorde to enter the All-Time ratings. Daniel Ponce De Leon moved up in the All-Time ratings
