FC Dallas vs. LA Galaxy

This was the last regular season home game for FC Dallas and with a win they would clench home field advantage throughout the playoffs and the conference championship. Lisa, Melissa, Gary, Sheryl (sp.?), Lyndsae, and Olivia went with. It had sold out, so there were only standing room tickets available for the rest, but there was room around my season seats and we all sat there together for the whole game. When we got there we walked around the stadium to see what was there, then went to sit. Lyndsae went for snackages for us. There were some good treats. The game was good also. LA, looking to avoid elimination from playoff contention was really trying to push forward and score. Consequently, they were allowing FC Dallas to posess the ball and get some good counter opportunities. One of those produced a foul which Richard Mulrooney was able to serve into the box for a Carlos Ruiz header into the back of the net. Halftime came with The home team leading 1-0. I went to get roasted nuts at half. Unfortunately, the nut guy's stand was not working well and the line was long. I ended up not getting back until around the 65th minute, by which time Ronnie O'Brien had tossed in a long ball to Kenny Cooper who was able to direct it into the back of the net to give FC a two goal and seemingly insurmountable lead. Almost immediately after sitting down, LA slipped one by Shaka Hislop, starting in goal for the injured Dario Sala to pull back within one, but Dallas pretty much held control until the end of the game after that and won 2-1. A pretty sweet deal, Conference Champs. A good time was had by all. Next up, home playoff game (leg 2) against Colorado (whom we surprisingly beat 2-1 in Colorado in leg 1 to almost ensure advancement into the next round.)

Shaka Hislop has got to be one of the all-time great names. Born in London in 1969, he went to Howard University in the States and interned at NASA. He started for Trinidad and Tobago in the 2006 World Cup. He has four daughters.

We did have a totally great time. Can't say enough about how pretty this field is. I decided with the red and white striped jerseys of the FC Dallas team and their fans, it would be a great place to look for Waldo. The nuts were yummy, the brat was excellent, the game was awesome. No moonpies on the way home though.
